Women in Construction Spotlight: Meet Jessica Rumbyrt, Director of Learning & Development

PHOENIX, ARIZONA

When Jessica Rumbyrt first stepped through the doors of Haydon in 2018 as a temporary employee, she couldn’t have imagined the journey ahead. One of her favorite quotes reminds us to “never despise meager beginnings” – and her story is a testament to embracing every step of the path, no matter how small it may seem.

What started as a temporary position blossomed into something much more meaningful when she discovered Haydon’s unique culture. Under the mentorship of Katie Haydon, the company’s president, Rumbyrt found not just a leader but a role model who demonstrated the impact women can have in construction. As an Organizational Development Coordinator, she had the privilege of helping new team members find their place within the company through the onboarding program, all while being inspired by the strong women leaders surrounding her.

As she grew into roles as Organizational Development Manager and Culture QB, Rumbyrt learned that true leadership in construction isn’t about titles – it’s about service. Whether facilitating the intern program, peer groups, or implementing new initiatives, every project was an opportunity to strengthen field teams and build a more collaborative environment.

Now, as Director of Learning & Development, she has the honor of working alongside incredible colleagues, helping them develop their skills and grow in their careers. The Learning & Development team is dedicated to helping each individual discover and leverage their unique strengths, creating opportunities for everyone to enhance their natural talents and abilities.

Each moment spent developing others has the potential to make a lasting impact, whether through a brief conversation or an intensive training session. Often, it’s the smallest gestures that leave the deepest impressions. From newcomers to seasoned leaders, every individual’s engagement and commitment strengthens the foundation of the industry. Rumbyrt’s challenge to others is simple yet powerful – find someone to mentor, make an impact by investing in another person’s growth journey.

The construction field has given Rumbyrt more than just career growth – it has instilled in her a deep sense of purpose through serving others and contributing to something greater than herself. Looking back at her journey from its humble beginnings to her current role, she remains grateful for each step along the path and the meaningful relationships that have shaped her professional evolution.
