Commitment to Sustainability

Committed to reducing our environmental impact

At Haydon, sustainability is more than just a practice – it’s a practice that we value. As a general contractor, we recognize our unique position to influence the built environment responsibly. From our corporate operations to our construction sites, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our sustainability efforts.

Energy Efficiency

Haydon implements a formal energy management system and is actively developing a company-wide recycling program. We reduce energy usage where possible, recycle consumables, and work to eliminate waste at the source. We’ve conducted a comprehensive waste audit and established a dedicated Sustainability Committee to identify and implement long-term sustainable solutions.

Our corporate office is LEED Silver Certified, constructed with recycled and rapidly renewable materials. It features low-emitting finishes and water-efficient systems. Recycle bins are conveniently located throughout the building to encourage responsible disposal.

Waste Reduction

Minimizing landfill waste is a priority. We focus our recycling efforts where they have the greatest impact, on our jobsites. Our teams work to reduce waste, divert recyclable materials, and maintain clean, well managed environments throughout each phase of construction. This includes collecting and properly disposing of materials such as paper, beverage containers, electronic equipment, batteries, packaging materials, scrap metal, wood offcuts, concrete, and excess construction materials when feasible.

Annual waste to landfill:
102 metric tons

Ongoing practices:

Material sorting and recycling on site, minimizing excess material use through careful planning, coordinating with trade partners to reduce waste, and maintaining clean, organized jobsites that protect surrounding communities and landscapes.

Water Conservation

Haydon takes a proactive approach to water conservation. Our office is equipped with faucet aerators and low-flush toilets, and our landscape design incorporates low-water-use plants to reduce irrigation needs.

Annual water waste:
1,250,000 gallons

Future efforts:

Developing a water recycling program to explore reuse opportunities and optimize water quality for various uses.

Sustainable Packaging & Communication

We prioritize digital communication—utilizing email, e-fax, PDFs, and virtual meeting platforms to reduce paper use. For physical deliveries, we choose packaging made from post-consumer recycled materials and partner with eco-conscious couriers.

  • We update mailing lists regularly to reduce unwanted mail.
  • We reuse packaging materials before recycling.
  • We consolidate shipments and partner with sustainable suppliers who share our values.

We encourage employees to carpool, take public transit, or use alternative modes of transportation.
