Building Moments: Restoring the Heart of Clark Park
For generations, Clark Park has been more than just a place on the map. It has been a gathering point. A summer tradition. A shared backyard for the Tempe community.
In the mid-1970s, the addition of a swimming pool transformed the park into a vibrant destination where families cooled off, neighbors connected, and memories were made. But in 2008, the Great Recession forced the closure of the community center and pool, leaving behind a space filled with history but absent of the activity that once defined it.
What followed was not simply a plan to rebuild, but a commitment to listen.
In 2018, the City of Tempe invited neighbors, families, and community members to help shape the future of Clark Park. Through open dialogue and continued feedback, a shared vision emerged. One rooted in honoring the past while investing in the future. This effort became part of Tempe’s broader initiative to reinvest nearly $70 million into parks and recreation spaces across the city, reaffirming the importance of accessible, welcoming community environments.
After more than 15 years, Clark Park’s community center and pool have reopened, reintroducing a place where connection, wellness, and belonging can thrive once again.
Located in the heart of the Clark Park neighborhood just south of downtown Tempe, the revitalized facility represents more than new construction. It represents resilience. It reflects what is possible when a community’s voice guides the process and when thoughtful investment restores spaces that matter deeply to the people who use them.
At Haydon, we believe construction is ultimately about people. Every project carries the opportunity to build something lasting, not only in structure, but in impact.
Clark Park stands as a reminder that when communities reinvest in shared spaces, they are not just rebuilding facilities. They are restoring gathering places, strengthening neighborhoods, and creating new moments for generations to come.
